Gore-Tex Pro (3-layer) — the durability benchmark. A rugged membrane bonded between tough face fabric and a protective backer. Found in top shells like the Arc'teryx Beta AR. Expensive, slightly stiff, and lasts a decade. Gore-Tex Paclite / Performance (2.5-layer) — lighter and cheaper; the 'half layer' is a printed protective coating. Packs small, feels clammy on long climbs, and the coating wears where pack straps rub. eVent — skips the polyurethane layer Gore uses over its pores, so it vents vapor more directly. Lab tests consistently show it breathing a notch better; long-term durability historically trailed Pro, though modern versions have closed the gap.
